Antipati, “Frågor som rör det allmänna”
Artist: ANTIPATI / Title: FRÅGOR SOM RÖR DET ALLMÄNNA /Genré: OI! /Format: CD / Label: KJELL HELL RECORDS /
In Swedish, we a saying which goes “He who awaits something good never wait too long” and that is certainly a fitting saying for this record, firstly, cos it was delayed, secondly, cos I have long awaited an all-Swedish language oi! record from Antipati. On their last full-length, they had a few English and a few Swedish songs, but my lasting impression from “On repeat” was that the Swedish ones was the best.
In fact, I would say (no offense to the visigoth Gatans Lag) that they are the best who’s dunnit in Swedish for a long while.
Musically, then? Well, in my review of their first full length, I said they had Agent Bulldogg and West Side Boys for schoolteachers in music class and I still sense some WSB in their more melodic numbers and there is some Bulldogg too, but over all, I think they’ve developed a sound of their own and it would be unfair to compare them with others and say “oh, they sound just like…”. No! Fuck that! Antipati is a proper band with a style of their own. Sometimes melodic, always hard and with a hoarse voice from Robban what really does the trick.
Lyrics, it’s just what one would expect from Robbans fairly misantropic views. He’s doing a lot of booting this time, handing out slaps and kicks to politicians, the telly, mainstream “punks” and society in general. The irony behind all this is that Antipati does not hide their contempt for politicians, but I do believe quite a few would like to vote for them if they was a party. To be fair, there’s a few subculture and drinking songs too in there.
A great record! Get it, even if you don’t know Swedish, the music alone makes this a Swedish oi! classic.
